The Anticipation!: I’ve been on the lookout for this particular donut ever since I started this blog three years ago, but seeing as the closest Krispy Kreme is a solid 20+ miles away from my house and in no way along my typical breakfast route, it was going to take a dedicated trip if I was ever going to taste this mythical pumpkin creation from the gods myself…
The Expedition…: Ok, so by “dedicated” I actually mean that I ventured forth on a trip to find multiple pumpkin products that have previously been eluding me – a veritable Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt, if you will!  Krispy Kreme was but one stop along my voyage, which in hindsight was probably actually a good thing because…
The Results?: …well, to say that I was unimpressed would be the very least that I could possibly say about this deep-fried “pumpkin” treat.  Frankly, it didn’t even taste remotely pumpkin, to the point where I almost went back to the counter to ask if they had given me the right doughnuts (or even donuts!).  Sure, they were tasty, and if you’re anything like me, you probably feel a little fatter just looking at the picture, but aside from boasting an uncanny volume of sugary glaze, these really could’ve been any other plain glazed donuts on the face of the earth.  A grave disappointment, indeed.

The Challenge: Folks, I really hope that I just had a bad experience with this one because I’ve been looking forward to them for a long time, but there are only four Krispy Kreme locations total here in the Greater Tampa Bay Area and honestly I don’t see myself traveling by another anytime soon.  Is it possible that I got a bad batch?  A lousy store??  Maybe the sun was in my eyes while I was eating them???  As always, please leave your own experiences – good or bad – in the comments and if you can convince me that these donuts actually should have more pumpkin value than just an empty fall marketing scheme, maybe I’ll track down a different store next year and give ‘em another try…
